It seems that viewing the athletic ability of the world’s best sports stars over the summer has had an impact on how men feel about their own bodies. Clinics in the UK are reporting an increase in men wanting to reduce the size of their man boobs – commonly known as ‘moobs’.
New statistics has shown a 38% rise in gynaecomastia – or moob – operations. It’s thought the buff bodies on display this summer may have prompted men to get rid of their moobs – a condition suffered by about 40% of the make population.
Male surgery accounts for 10 per cent of all cosmetic surgery procedures, according to the latest figures from the British Association of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) .
And moob ops retained their place as the second most common procedure for men, rising by seven per cent from 741 to 790. Five years ago it was half that figure.
